Shirodhara

An Ayurvedic Therapy to relieve Stress, regulate the Nervous System and balance Hormones!

Shirodhara is one of the most essential therapies in Ayurveda to relieve stress, regulate the nervous system and promote deep sleep. It is very rejuvenating and healing, since body and mind go into a deep state of relaxation.

Shirodhara is an ancient therapy that works profoundly in a very soothing way, ‘Shiro’ means head and ‘Dhara’ stream, flow or pour. Warm herbal oils are poured in a gentle and continuous stream over your forehead, penetrating the nervous system, creating a calming sensation which results in a dynamic psycho-somatic balance.

The continuous flow of the warm oil stimulates certain vital points (Marmas) on your head and works with the hypothalamus and the regulation of the pituitary gland. This helps to regulate serotonin and stress hormones thereby balancing the hormone/endocrine system.

Some of the benefits in a nutshell are:

  • Down regulating the stress in body and mind by reducing cortisol
    levels

  • Deepening quality of sleep

  • Balancing of serotonin levels and reduction of anxiety and
    restlessness

  • Soothing Vata imbalances

  • Helps with clarity and dealing with emotional experiences/trauma by
working with the ‘Third Eye’ a vital Marma point for clearing the
    energy channels of the mind

I apply Shirodhara in the traditional way by the hand-pouring of warm oils, rather than the use of machines or electricity for application.

I offer the following three services:

  1. A dosha specific full body warm oil Marma Abhyanga followed by
    Shirodhara.

  2. In combination with Siddha Varmam Therapy to deeply open up
your body and mind channels allowing for a deep reset and healing.
Very effective in acute and chronic conditions.

  3. In combination with a TRE (Trauma/Tension/Stress Release
Therapy Session) to facilitate deeper release on a somatic level and
    energy channels of the mind.
