Tension, Stress & Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE)

TRE: A revolutionary method for stress and trauma recovery

What is TRE?

TRE was created by Dr. David Berceli, Phd., an international expert in the area of trauma intervention and conflict resolution comprising a worldwide network.
Tension, Stress & Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE) is a very effective practice. It is a series of specific, safe exercises to release stored tension, stress, and the neurobiological effects of trauma from the body. It is a somatic practice (somatic = body centered approach, rather than focusing only on thoughts and emotions without necessarily “revisiting the story”) This practice activates a natural reflex in the body to involuntary vibrate or shake, releasing deep muscular patterns of tension, stress and trauma. This will help in facilitating the nervous system to calm down and bring us into a state of calm and balance by working with the body’s innate wisdom. TRE is based on the fundamental idea that tension, stress, and trauma are both psychological and physical.

What is Trauma?

Often people think that trauma is caused by a traumatic event such as an accident, being in a war zone, or a sexual/physical/emotional assault.
These are certainly types of situations that can result in trauma.
Trauma also can happen in many other subtle ways accumulating over time. Life in general exposes us to varying degrees of trauma and stress challenging our ability to cope. Wether trauma occurs in an emotional, physical, psychological or interpersonal form, it expresses itself in the body. Body and mind are linked as Dr.Peter Levine states “Trauma is in the nervous system, not the event”. When we feel unsafe or overwhelmed, we start defending or protecting. What defending and protecting looks like;

  • Fight….through anger and aggression as self protection

  • Flight….to flee as fast as possible, to get away

  • Freeze….unable to move, numb, feeling like not being part of our body

  • Shutdown or dissociation

This happens before we can think, as a trigger response. It creates stress in the nervous system and tension in the body. Sometime we stay stuck or find ourselves in a repeating pattern.

Over time it can affect our physical and emotional health and compromise our well-being.

By slowing down, we can become more aware of what is happening in our body. This is the first step in supporting our nervous system and starting to change patterns. Learning to adapt to daily life, respond to stress differently, and self regulate is an ongoing journey.
TRE (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises) is a revolutionary, simple and safe technique of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma.

Who can benefit from TRE?

Anyone and everyone who feels overwhelmed by the daily stress of life,
and wants to reduce tension and the neurobiological effects of trauma.

The clients I have worked with feel immediate relief and report a ‘shift’ after their session. They report feeling much calmer, centered, and grounded and as though they’ve just received a massage.

What are the benefits of TRE?

  • Reduced anxiety, overwhelm and worry

  • More sustained, vibrant energy and aliveness

  • Better sleep

  • Reduced muscle and back pain

  • More flexibility and strength in the body

  • Less triggers, hence better relationship with partners and friends

  • Reduces symptoms of PTSD and trauma

  • Increase in emotional resilience and stability

I am currently offering private TRE sessions either in person or online. (small group classes coming soon as well).
